Liverpool fans to remove iconic Anfield feature in protest against ticket rises

Anfield will be without its iconic flags on the Kop for the final three Premier League home fixtures of the season.
It comes as fan groups protest against Liverpool’s decision to increase ticket prices.

The club have announced prices will rise for the next three seasons in a controversial move.
Amongst those to oppose the decision are Spion Kop 1906, who organise the flag and banner displays at Anfield.
The group have announced they will boycott the remaining home matches this season.
Their protest will begin after Tuesday’s Champions League quarter-final second leg against Paris Saint-Germain.
Spion Kop 1906 statement
In a statement shared on X, Spion Kop 1906 explained the reasoning behind their decision.
It read: “Since the announcement regarding future ticket pricing, we have been in discussions as a group regarding our response.
“As always, we will pay our respects at the closest game to the anniversary of the Hillsborough disaster, which will be the PSG game.
“After much consultation, all Spion Kop 1906 flags will no longer be present at the remaining fixtures. We feel we have been left with no other option, year on year the rising costs are pricing more fans out of football. Fans are increasingly reaching their breaking point as football becomes unaffordable.
“We must take a stand against the rising cost of football, we feel there’s a value to being valued. The culture and traditions, which have been passed down by previous generations must be preserved, with football remaining accessible to future generations.
“We, the fans, are the heartbeat of the football club; the same heartbeat that Liverpool Football Club market for a pound note. We urge FSG to remember that our club should embody the identity of its surrounding community and resonate with the values of the local area.

“What is Anfield without its heartbeat? Do the right thing for the future of our game. Listen to the heartbeat. NO TO TICKET PRICE INCREASES.”
The Reds will have three more home league matches after this weekend’s clash with Fulham.
Arne Slot’s side host Crystal Palace at Anfield on April 25 before facing Chelsea at home on May 9.
Liverpool then conclude the campaign against Brentford on home soil on May 24.
However, the iconic banners and flags on the Kop will be absent during those matches.
Meanwhile, Spion Kop 1906 are not the only fan group to protest the ticket price increase.

Supporters have been asked to buy food and drink from local businesses in the surrounding area instead of spending money inside Anfield.
