Cucurella joins Real Madrid from Chelsea

Marc Cucurella has completed a move from Chelsea to Real Madrid.

Cucurella seems likely to feature for Spain when the reigning European champions start their World Cup campaign against Cape Verde on Monday.

Yet just hours before kick-off in Atlanta, it has been confirmed Cucurella has changed clubs.

Madrid have paid a reported €55m (£47.5m) for the left-back, with the deal potentially rising as high as €60m (£51.8m).

The 27-year-old joined Chelsea from Brighton in 2022, and went on to make 163 appearances for the Blues, providing 11 assists and scoring nine goals.

Cucurella becomes Madrid’s first signing since the appointment of Jose Mourinho, who has joined for a second stint in charge of Los Blancos.

Denzel Dumfries and Ibrahima Konate are expected to join Madrid, while the Spanish giants had a €150m offer turned down by Atletico Madrid for striker Julian Alvarez.

Cucurella, who came through the ranks at Barcelona, has penned a six-year deal with Madrid.

He helped Chelsea win the Conference League and Club World Cup in 2025, but with the Blues missing out on European qualification in 2025-26, they may well have to sell more players.

Enzo Fernandez was suspended by the club earlier this year after his remarks over wanting to live in Madrid, while Liam Delap is reportedly a target for other Premier League teams.
