Aston Villa signs Joao Gomes

According to Reuters, Aston Villa has completed the signing of Joao Gomes from Wolverhampton Wanderers.

The Brazil international has left Wolves after spending three-and-a-half years at Molineux, with Villa strengthening its midfield ahead of the new season.

Sky Sports reports that the deal is worth around £38 million. Villa has been looking for midfield reinforcements after selling Youri Tielemans and losing Amadou Onana to a long-term injury.

Gomes joined Wolves from Flamengo in 2023 and quickly became one of the club’s most important midfielders. His energy, tackling and ball-winning ability made him a key player in the Premier League.

Aston Villa has been active in the summer market as Unai Emery prepares his squad for another demanding campaign. Gomes is expected to add intensity and defensive strength to Villa’s midfield.

The move also gives the 25-year-old a chance to take the next step in his Premier League career after establishing himself as one of Wolves’ standout performers.
