Hull City has reached an agreement with Rayo Vallecano to sign Nobel Mendy, according to Fabrizio Romano.
The newly promoted Premier League club will pay €25 million for the Senegalese defender. Rayo will also receive 12.5% of any future transfer fee if Hull eventually sells Mendy.
The agreement comes only two months after Rayo completed Mendy’s permanent transfer from Real Betis. He spent the 2025/26 campaign on loan in Madrid before Rayo exercised its purchase option and gave him a contract running until June 2030.
Mendy established himself during that loan spell, making more than 20 appearances in La Liga and contributing two goals. One of those came during Rayo’s impressive 3-0 victory over Atletico Madrid in February.
The 21-year-old primarily plays as a central defender but can also operate at left-back. His left foot and ability to defend across two positions should give Hull more flexibility during its first season back in the Premier League.
Mendy’s physical qualities also appear suited to English football. He is comfortable defending in open space, offers strength in individual duels and has already gained experience against some of Spain’s leading attacking players.
The reported fee represents a major commitment from Hull. It would place Mendy among the club’s most substantial additions since promotion and give Rayo a considerable return on a player it signed permanently earlier this summer.
Rayo’s agreement to include a future-sale percentage suggests the Spanish club expects Mendy’s value to continue rising. Hull will be buying a young defender with four seasons remaining on his contract rather than taking advantage of a player approaching free agency.
